Samantha Cole debuting AW13 Collection at NOLCHA Fashion Week: New York

British Award Winning Designer Samantha Cole in Association with Virginia Bright ENTERTAINMENT will be debuting her Collection at NOLCHA Fashion Week: New York on Wednesday 13th Feb, 2013 at Chelsea Piers, Pier 59 on 18th Street and the West Side Highway at 7pm. Mark Holgate of American Vogue states Samantha Cole London as one of Britain’s Fashion Forward Designers and featured as one of Italian Vogue’s TALENTS she is definitely a designer to watch.

This new up and coming label that was established in 2008 has continued to go from strength to strength, the label is fast becoming a magnet for press culminating in numerous features and interviews worldwide from front page covers to full page spreads. SCL draws influences from modern day trends without completely relying on it for the direction and purpose of her collections.

The A/W 2013 Collection “A Linear Nights Equation” drew inspiration from a back to basics formula of maths. The mathematical equation graph was the basis for the simple and uncomplicated shapes created. It also inspired the brands debut print range which consists strictly of linear shapes. Creating this Linear inspired collection began by using the “NIGHT EQUATION” graph accompanied by slopes and 3D linear equations. This is the focus and dominant feature that can be seen throughout the collection.

The “NIGHT EQUATION” set the tone for the monochrome colour palette with a hint of tonal sunrise producing for the first time a slight warmth to the collection. The linear equation which is based on lines forming shapes also inspired the textured pieces from the suede hand knitted dress to the basket weave knit skinny trousers. While the collection has far less textured fabrics as in previous seasons, it is richer in its use of leather that runs throughout the collection, other fabrics include suede, cashmere wool blend fabrics, silk, jersey and knits. The silhouettes are strong and defined with an emphasis on fit and structure.

The ethos is to constantly find new ways to make 3D wearable and this is being emphasized through the current collection by highlighting the soft & strong, light & dark and shadow effects being created through contrasting colours and textures.
Samantha Cole continually challenges the definition of style and beauty and aims to make each garment an independent design capable of holding its own but still conveniently resides within the scope of the collection.
